In October 2003 the Native Forest Network organized a post-fire monitoring trip to the Mineral Primm Fire area with students from the University of Montana. The monitoring trip started from Plum Creek Timber Company lands in the Gold Creek drainage. The monitoring team used bikes to travel 5 miles through Plum Creek Timber Company lands to National Forest lands and the start of the West Fork of Gold Creek trail.
