The 5 mile ride to the National Forest trailhead was all uphill and once we climbed further up the Gold Creek drainage we clearly could see that years of logging, "thinning" and roadbuilding by Plum Creek Timber Company did absolutely nothing to slow the spread of this fire. All the land in this photo is owned by Plum Creek.
