What a difference a few hundred yards can make! After parking our bikes at the trailhead, we followed the trail into an unlogged and unroaded part of the Lolo National Forest. The fire still burned in this forest, but notice how the fire burned in a beautiful mosaic. Unfortunately, the Lolo National Forest has announced plans for a 250 acre post-fire "salvage" logging project in this remarkable area. In fact, the forest in this photo lies directly within one of the proposed logging units.
