It’s important to note that this logging project is being proposed under the Bush Administration’s new "Categorical Exclusion" authority – part of Bush’s so-called "Healthy Forests Initiative." Therefore, the public has no right to appeal this project and the environmental review proces is limited, despite the fact that this forest is home to Canada Lynx and bull trout. Also, while the Forest Service and Bush Administration claim they want to encourage public participation, this logging project was annouced in December and the comment period for the project closed in January, yet the project area was under 6 feet of snow at the time and access to the site was only possible with snowmobiles.
